Free Photo Editing Software – GIMP

There is another free photo editing software package out there that gives Photoshop and others a run for thier money and it doesn’t cost a thing.  It’s called GIMP.  GIMP has a very large selection of tools and plugins you can use which makes it very versatile.

GIMP has been around for a very long time and has ample time to mature as a very good program for editing your photos.  Most functions are like your other photo editing applications so even though there is a bit of a learning curve, it is not that much.

The features of GIMP go beyond what a simple article like this can go into.  It has a massive amount of tools and functions for you to use and is fairly easy to get around in.  There are some difference that do take a while to get used to but after the learning curve is over, you’ll be editing photos like a pro and like you were using a software package that costs hundreds of dollars, but you got it for FREE!.

Since GIMP has been around for a really long time, it seems to be more stable than many of the full commecial applications that I use.  It is pretty fast loading and photos load up quickly also.  A lot of the tools work the same way as most other photo editing software packages do so that’s a plus there.

GIMP is rated 5 starts by CNET.
